for its long-term pro­ject ″Modern India in Ger­man Archi­ves″ (MIDA) star­ting from Novem­ber 1, 2018. The PhD posi­ti­on is tem­pora­ry (2 yrs) with 66% of the average stan­dard wee­kly working hours (cur­r­ent­ly 26,5 hrs/week). The renu­me­ra­ti­on is in accordance to 13 TVöD of the Ger­man renu­me­ra­ti­on table of public ser­vice employees.

Your tasks will inclu­de

  • Sup­por­ting our team in ent­e­ring con­tents into the data­ba­se ″Modern India in Ger­man Archi­ves ″ (MIDA) with a spe­cial focus on poli­ti­cal histo­ry
  • Imple­men­ta­ti­on of your own rese­arch pro­ject on poli­ti­cal histo­ry pre­do­mi­nant­ly based on rese­arch mate­ri­als gene­ra­ted by MIDA

Your pro­fi­le

  • Suc­cess­ful­ly com­ple­ted uni­ver­si­ty degree/MA degree in the field of Histo­ry, South Asi­an Stu­dies or rela­ted are­as
  • A rese­arch focus on the poli­ti­cal histo­ry of South Asia (pre­fer­a­b­ly with a focus on the 18th or 19th cen­tu­ries)
  • Com­pre­hen­si­ve know­ledge of Ger­man, Eng­lish and one South Asi­an lan­guage

The posi­ti­on intends to fur­ther qua­li­fy young aca­de­mics and enab­les them to requi­re a PhD.

Your tasks will inclu­de:

Sup­por­ting our team in ent­e­ring con­tents into the data­ba­se ″Modern India in Ger­man Archi­ves″ (MIDA) with a focus on poli­ti­cal histo­ry (1/3rd of your working time); imple­men­ta­ti­on of a rese­arch pro­ject on poli­ti­cal histo­ry pre­do­mi­nant­ly based on rese­arch mate­ri­als gene­ra­ted by MIDA (2/3rd of your working time). A one-year exten­si­on of this con­tract after posi­ti­ve eva­lua­ti­on is pos­si­ble. The requi­re­ments inclu­de a par­ti­cu­lar­ly well-qua­li­fied PhD in the fields of histo­ry, South Asi­an Stu­dies or rela­ted are­as;

a rese­arch focus on the poli­ti­cal histo­ry of South Asia;
