The study peri\u00adod cov\u00aders the time\u00adframe between the Con\u00adgress of Vien\u00adna and the begin\u00adning of Ger\u00adman colo\u00adnial\u00adism in the 1870s. This was a time when the Ger\u00adman states were still with\u00adout a Ger\u00adman uni\u00adtary state and with\u00adout own colonies. Nev\u00ader\u00adthe\u00adless, Ger\u00adman-speak\u00ading botanists and nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adists par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpat\u00aded in the empire of knowl\u00adedge at that time, ben\u00ade\u00adfit\u00aded from its col\u00adlec\u00adtions and inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal exchanges, con\u00adtributed their own col\u00adlec\u00adtions, con\u00adscious\u00adly or uncon\u00adscious\u00adly, cre\u00adat\u00aded, with their exper\u00adtise and their clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions, the colo\u00adnial ecosys\u00adtem man\u00adage\u00adment and ulti\u00admate\u00adly the exploita\u00adtion of the envi\u00adron\u00adment. The actors con\u00adcerned could be local ama\u00adteurs as well as researchers res\u00adi\u00addent in Ger\u00admany. Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty pro\u00adfes\u00adsors par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpat\u00aded as well as mis\u00adsion\u00adar\u00adies, doc\u00adtors, phar\u00adma\u00adcists or explorers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project address\u00ades the fol\u00adlow\u00ading ques\u00adtions: 1.) Which actors and which insti\u00adtu\u00adtions were involved and how? In addi\u00adtion to the botanists them\u00adselves, the botan\u00adi\u00adcal gar\u00addens and the sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic soci\u00adeties, for exam\u00adple, played an impor\u00adtant role as inter\u00adfaces in the botan\u00adi\u00adcal net\u00adwork, espe\u00adcial\u00adly by pro\u00admot\u00ading nation\u00adal and inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal exchanges, award\u00ading prizes and hon\u00adors, pro\u00admot\u00ading careers, fund\u00ading research or writ\u00ading instruc\u00adtions. 2.) Were there polit\u00adi\u00adcal or colo\u00adnial inter\u00adests in pol\u00adi\u00adtics in Ger\u00adman-speak\u00ading coun\u00adtries? Did such inter\u00adests affect botany? These ques\u00adtions also con\u00adcern, for exam\u00adple, the fund\u00ading of research and the clients. 3.) How did nat\u00adur\u00adal research in Ger\u00adman-speak\u00ading coun\u00adtries and its rela\u00adtion\u00adship to the colo\u00adnial pow\u00aders look like? Was there direct con\u00adtact? There are also 4) social-his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal ques\u00adtions about the sup\u00adport\u00ading groups and stra\u00adta, espe\u00adcial\u00adly among the Ger\u00adman botan\u00adi\u00adcal sup\u00adpli\u00aders in India, their ori\u00adgin, inter\u00adests and moti\u00adva\u00adtions. Who sup\u00adport\u00aded them local\u00adly? And final\u00adly 5.): Was there a Ger\u00adman net\u00adwork with\u00adin botany or was it main\u00adly inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion? How did the net\u00adwork work in prac\u00adtice?
