The respec\u00adtive alliances of these four coun\u00adtries were very dif\u00adfer\u00adent with\u00adin in the Cold War con\u00adtext: where\u00adas the two Ger\u00adman states\u2019 quite cleary alligned with the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., respec\u00adtive\u00adly, the two South Asian states delib\u00ader\u00adate\u00adly remained non-aligned. How\u00adev\u00ader, with the con\u00adclu\u00adsion of the Indo-Sovi\u00adet Friend\u00adship Treaty in August 1971, India open\u00adly moved clos\u00ader to Moscow, while Pak\u00adistan had already become an impor\u00adtant strate\u00adgic ally of Wash\u00ading\u00adton on the Indi\u00adan sub\u00adcon\u00adti\u00adnent earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My research project exam\u00adines the rela\u00adtion\u00adship of the Fed\u00ader\u00adal Repub\u00adlic and the <span class=\"caps\">GDR<\/span> with India and Pak\u00adistan dur\u00ading the 1971 Bangladesh Lib\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion War. It ana\u00adlyzes action and reac\u00adtion of the two Ger\u00adman states in this South Asian con\u00adflict as an exam\u00adple for the actu\u00adal agency of seem\u00ading\u00adly weak devel\u00adop\u00ading coun\u00adtries vis-\u00e0-vis high\u00adly devel\u00adoped coun\u00adtries. The project applies the con\u00adcept of the \u201ctyran\u00adny of the weak\u201d to the unique Ger\u00adman-Ger\u00adman rela\u00adtion\u00adship at the begin\u00adning of the 1970s.
