This list con\u00adtains detailed infor\u00adma\u00adtion regard\u00ading all India-relat\u00aded sound record\u00adings and doc\u00adu\u00adments in the Lautarchiv of the Hum\u00adboldt Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty, Berlin<\/a>. The list was com\u00adpiled dur\u00ading the incor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adtion of the archive into the MIDA<\/span> data\u00adbase<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the his\u00adtoric, polit\u00adi\u00adcal and sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic con\u00adtext in which these record\u00adings were made, the orig\u00adi\u00adnal focus of the doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion negates the indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adal\u00adi\u00adty of the speak\u00ader. Most of them were Pris\u00adon\u00aders of War (PoW) in Ger\u00adman camps dur\u00ading the First World War. The Lautarchiv is there\u00adfore con\u00adsid\u00adered a \u2018sen\u00adsi\u00adtive col\u00adlec\u00adtion\u2019 (See the MIDA-Reflex\u00adi\u00adcon arti\u00adcle by J\u00fcrgen\u2011K. Mahren\u00adholz<\/a>). To coun\u00adter\u00adact this objec\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion, the items of the list in the PDF<\/span> ver\u00adsion were sort\u00aded alpha\u00adbet\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly by name of (main) speaker\/singer. To enable fur\u00adther forms of pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion (i.e. chrono\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly by date of record\u00ading, sort\u00aded by lan\u00adguage), a sortable Excel list is also avail\u00adable for download.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lan\u00adguage descrip\u00adtions giv\u00aden in the list were extract\u00aded from the title of the record\u00ading and (where nec\u00ades\u00adsary) from the inscrip\u00adtion on the sound car\u00adri\u00ader. In some instances, the lan\u00adguage actu\u00adal\u00adly spo\u00adken in the record\u00ading might differ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The con\u00adser\u00adva\u00adtion sta\u00adtus of the phys\u00adi\u00adcal sound car\u00adri\u00ader is not con\u00adtained in this list, since the whole remain\u00ading col\u00adlec\u00adtion is avail\u00adable as dig\u00adi\u00adtal copy (.wav \/ .mp3) at the archive itself. If work on the phys\u00adi\u00adcal sound car\u00adri\u00ader is required, it is advis\u00adable to check the con\u00addi\u00adtion of the medi\u00adum in the archive\u2019s database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
