These films are housed in the archive of&nbsp;<em>Progress<\/em>, which was the only film dis\u00adtrib\u00adu\u00adtor of the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">GDR<\/span>. Progress was one of the old\u00adest and largest Ger\u00adman film dis\u00adtrib\u00adu\u00adtors, that was found\u00aded on the 1st&nbsp;of August 1950, as a Ger\u00adman-Sovi\u00adet com\u00adpa\u00adny in East Berlin. These films present India from the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">GDR<\/span>\u2019s per\u00adspec\u00adtive, as a for\u00admer colo\u00adnial nation that was try\u00ading to move for\u00adward on the path of indus\u00adtri\u00adal devel\u00adop\u00adment, democ\u00adra\u00adcy and social progress. In this col\u00adlec\u00adtion, which main\u00adly con\u00adsists of the news\u00adreel films,&nbsp;<em>Der Augen\u00adzeuge<\/em>&nbsp;(The Eye\u00adwit\u00adness), India is giv\u00aden a promi\u00adnent place. The films cast cru\u00adcial insights on Indi\u00adan soci\u00adety and poli\u00adty, but also India\u2019s role and sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcance in the con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary geopo\u00adlit\u00adi\u00adcal sce\u00adnario of the Cold War, from the&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">GDR<\/span>\u2019s per\u00adspec\u00adtive. The film mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal is not only use\u00adful for its his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal and polit\u00adi\u00adcal con\u00adtent, but also for its cin\u00ade\u00admat\u00adic inter\u00adven\u00adtions. The list also includes some&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">GDR<\/span>&nbsp;doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adtary films that sole\u00adly focused on India.
