This list pro\u00advides users details of moun\u00adtaineer\u00ading expe\u00addi\u00adtions from Ger\u00admany to the Himalayas between 1929 and 1989. The his\u00adto\u00adry of Indo-Ger\u00adman entan\u00adgle\u00adments in the Himalayas goes back to the trav\u00adels of the Schlag\u00adin\u00adtweit broth\u00aders Adolph, Her\u00admann, and Robert in the mid-nine\u00adteenth cen\u00adtu\u00adry (1854\u20131857). How\u00adev\u00ader, any seri\u00adous effort at climb\u00ading the peaks only began in the ear\u00adly twen\u00adti\u00adeth cen\u00adtu\u00adry and in this con\u00adtext, the Ger\u00adman moun\u00adtaineer\u00ading expe\u00addi\u00adtions belonged to the very few for\u00adeign expe\u00addi\u00adtions per\u00admit\u00adted to climb in the Himalayas, begin\u00adning with the attempt to climb Kangchen\u00adjun\u00adga (8586m) in 1929. Sev\u00ader\u00adal expe\u00addi\u00adtions to the Himalayas were con\u00adduct\u00aded since then most\u00adly with the sup\u00adport of the Deutsche Alpen\u00advere\u00adin<\/i> (DAV<\/span>). The DAV<\/span>, which was estab\u00adlished in 1869 and exists until today, hous\u00ades the archive of these expe\u00addi\u00adtions. The bulk of sources in the Archiv des Deutschen Alpen\u00advere\u00adins<\/i> on the Himalayan expe\u00addi\u00adtions are in the fol\u00adlow\u00ading hold\u00adings: Archiva\u00adlien von Expe\u00addi\u00adtion\u00ads\u00adge\u00adsellschaften<\/i> (EXP<\/span>), Per\u00adso\u00adnen\u00adnach\u00adl\u00e4sse<\/i> (NAS<\/span>), Fotografien und Postkarten<\/i> (FOP<\/span>) and Doku\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtio\u00adnen<\/i> (DOK<\/span>). A major\u00adi\u00adty of the writ\u00adten sources from the expe\u00addi\u00adtions are cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00addences, diaries, expe\u00addi\u00adtion plan\u00adning and reports. Oth\u00ader sources like pho\u00adtographs, audio record\u00adings and pub\u00adlic\u00adi\u00adty mate\u00adri\u00adals are also avail\u00adable in the holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expe\u00addi\u00adtions car\u00adried out in part\u00adner\u00adship with oth\u00ader coun\u00adtries such as Aus\u00adtria, are also men\u00adtioned in this list giv\u00aden that they were car\u00adried out with the sup\u00adport of the DAV<\/span> or the Deutsche Himalaya Stiftung<\/i> (DHS<\/span>). The oth\u00ader insti\u00adtu\u00adtion involved in Ger\u00adman moun\u00adtaineer\u00ading expe\u00addi\u00adtions was the Deutsches Insti\u00adtut f\u00fcr Aus\u00adlands\u00adforschung<\/i> (DIAF<\/span>), estab\u00adlished by Karl Maria Her\u00adrligkof\u00adfer in 1952 to explore and climb moun\u00adtains. The mem\u00adbers of these moun\u00adtaineer\u00ading expe\u00addi\u00adtions also pub\u00adlished their reports either in the form of arti\u00adcles in jour\u00adnals or as mono\u00adgraphs. These are sys\u00adtem\u00adat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly list\u00aded in the bib\u00adli\u00adog\u00adra\u00adphy and orga\u00adnized accord\u00ading to each decade, begin\u00adning in the 1930s and end\u00ading in 2016. The list also offers an overview of arti\u00adcles on the var\u00adi\u00adous expe\u00addi\u00adtions in the jour\u00adnals of the DAV<\/span> [DAV<\/span> Jahrbuch<\/i>], the British and Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Alpine Clubs [Alpine Jour\u00adnal<\/i> &<\/span> Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Alpine Jour\u00adnal<\/i>], as well as the Indi\u00adan Himalayan Club [Himalayan Jour\u00adnal<\/i>]. The lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture com\u00adpiled in this list is not exhaus\u00adtive and lim\u00adit\u00aded to Ger\u00adman and Eng\u00adlish lan\u00adguage pub\u00adli\u00adca\u00adtions. Most jour\u00adnals men\u00adtioned in the list are avail\u00adable in the pub\u00adlic domain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
