India-related private collections in German Archives

This list contains information concerning literary estates related to India which are stored in German archives. The bulk of the decedents consist of missionaries or scientists whose work was situated in India, either as physical location location or as subject matter – nevertheless, one will also find politicians, businessmen and adventurers amongst them. In addition to information concerning the estate itself (i.e. its content, the temporal span it covers, as well as its physical extent) the list also contains brief biographical data about the decedents.

The list was compiled by Martin Christof-Füchsle and Nico Putz. Besides estates, the list also contains information regarding the archives that store them, as well as some tips for further independent research on estates via the online database kalliope.

We thank you very much in advance for any references to further relevant estates! Please directly contact Nico Putz with any such information.
